A wedding photographer holds a traditional film camera

There’s a reason film photography has never gone out of style. Even with the clarity, speed, and flexibility of digital cameras, there’s something undeniably magical about the way real film renders a wedding day. It feels nostalgic. Textured. Honest. A little unpredictable in the most beautiful way.

And starting this season, I’m thrilled to offer traditional film photography—both 35mm and medium format—as an optional add-on to any wedding package.

If you’re drawn to that timeless, fine-art look and want to infuse your gallery with images that feel like heirlooms from the moment they’re created, film might be the perfect addition to your day.

Why Film? A Different Kind of Storytelling

Digital images are incredibly versatile and crisp—and they will always remain the heart of my coverage. But film brings something unique that can’t be replicated with presets or filters:

1. The texture and depth are one-of-a-kind.

Film handles light in this beautifully organic way. Skin tones are softer, highlights feel dreamier, and colors take on a nostalgic warmth that feels straight out of a memory.

2. Film slows things down—in a good way.

Every frame is intentional. Every moment is considered. Film invites you to breathe, settle into the moment, and let your love story unfold naturally.

3. Medium format film adds a fine-art quality.

Medium format negatives are larger than 35mm, which gives portraits and landscapes an almost painterly depth. Think: sweeping mountain backdrops in Rocky Mountain National Park, golden hour portraits in Fort Collins, or intimate moments tucked under aspen trees.

4. It pairs beautifully with Colorado weddings.

The dynamic light, alpine landscapes, and earthy tones here translate stunningly onto film. Whether you're getting married in Estes Park, Lyons, Boulder, Breckenridge, or Fort Collins, film elevates the natural beauty around you.

How It Works: A Simple, Flexible Add-On

Film is meant to enhance your digital gallery, not replace it. You choose how many rolls you’d like to incorporate into your day:

35mm Film — $150 per roll

Perfect for candid moments, movement, and storytelling images.

120 Medium Format Film — $200 per roll

Ideal for portraits, scenic frames, and anything you want to feel ultra-fine-art.

Every roll includes professional development, hybrid scanning, and curated delivery of the film images in your final gallery—right alongside your digital edits.

There are no minimums. Add one roll for a touch of nostalgia, or several if you want film woven throughout your wedding day.

What Moments Work Best on Film?

You can use film anywhere in your wedding timeline, but here are a few of my favorite opportunities:

  • Getting ready moments with soft window light

  • First looks

  • Portraits in the mountains or open fields

  • Vows or ceremony moments

  • Slow, quiet moments you want to feel more intimate

  • Sunset/blue hour portraits

  • The first 10 minutes after you say “I do”

Film thrives in emotional, unhurried spaces—the kinds of moments you’ll want to relive again and again.

Who Is Film Best For?

Couples who love:

  • Timeless, nostalgic, romantic imagery

  • The look of vintage wedding photos

  • Fine-art aesthetics

  • Texture, grain, and emotional depth

  • Photography that feels like an experience, not just documentation

And of course—anyone who loves the idea of mixing formats and creating a unique, layered gallery.

A Final Word: Film as Art, Film as Memory

Adding film to your wedding is like opening a beautiful time capsule. Each frame is intentional, thoughtful, and filled with character. It’s a way to honor the artistry of photography while creating images that will feel timeless for decades to come.

If you’re curious about incorporating film into your Colorado wedding coverage, I’m happy to help you choose the rolls and formats that will best fit your day.

Your love story deserves to be documented with depth—and film is one of the most beautiful ways to do that.
